Competition

Competition is a major and fun part of the barbershop world that helps keep us focused on raising the bar of performing excellence. We come together in a spirit of lighthearted contest, to see who's really knows how to perform this wonderful craft. We root for each other, cheer each other on, and once the medals have been handed out, we sing and party into the night!

Division Contest

Every year in in late spring the First State Harmonizers Chorus makes the trip to our division contest usually in Eastern Pennslyvania, Delaward or New Jersey to compete with other quartets and choruses in the Mid Atlantic region. Dozens of choruses and quartets come together to sing and compete. There are a number of judging categories, and the groups bring complete and entertaining packages. If you're anywhere near Cherry Hill, NJ, June 1 - 3, 2013, think about visiting this event.   Saturday's "Show of Champions" is a treat of all!  The best quartets and choruses of the competition are given the honor to perform for the attendees and the pubic at this show.

District Contest

Every year in the fall, quartets and choruses who do well enough, qualify to compete in the District competition.  The district contest is always scheduled in October of each year.

International Contest

Sometime in  July the following year,  the winners of all district contests, and a few "wildcards", gather together on an "international stage" to compete.  In 2013 International competition will be held in Toronto, ON, beginning on June 30, 2013.  You can view the complete contest on a live webcast on the Barbershop Harmony Society website.  This is the ultimate barbershop competition.  Competitors from all over world strive to qualify for the thrill to participate in this competition.
